Perfect Tenses



  • The present perfect tense of a verb names an action that happened at an indefinite time in the past. It also tells about a past action that happened in the past and may still be happening. The dogs have barked for hours. The dogs have been barking all day.
  • The past perfect tense of a verb names an action that happened before another action or event in the past. He had just sat down when the music began.
